Applying blush to your face can make all the difference, whether you want to enhance your natural beauty or achieve a dramatic and striking aesthetic. The key is understanding your face shape and using the appropriate product for maximum impact.
Round:
To add dimension and definition to your cheeks, gently sweep a blush brush across them from lower to higher in long, soft motions. Pull the color up toward your brow area and blend evenly for an enlivening flush effect.
Oval Face Shape:
On average, oval faces have longer faces than they do wide. To enhance the definition of your cheekbones, apply blush in the center of your apple of the cheek (where it meets your nose) and bring it up towards the top of the temple. Avoid pearlized or highly reflective products on these shapes in order to create an overall smooth, rounded surface.
Square:
Square faces tend to have wider noses than their rectangular counterparts, so to soften their angles apply some blush just below the apple of the cheek. Swipe the brush down towards your earlobe to add dimension but don’t blend too far out on either side.
Diamond:
For those with diamond faces, Alex Laramie – makeup artist at Credo – recommends applying blush in a “C” shape from the temples to the chin. However, don’t go too far out on either side as this may make your face appear angular.
Heart:
Generally, hearts feature high cheekbones, a narrow chin, and a pointed jawline. To soften this appearance, apply blush in an “C” shape from top to bottom, blending as you go.
Rectangular:
As a rule, those with rectangular faces tend to have wider foreheads and narrower chins. To bring out these features, apply some blush along the tops of each cheekbone and around each earlobe.
Use a synthetic brush to evenly apply color and tap off any excess. Beginning at the cheekbone, brush down towards the earlobe, then up towards the temple.
